On Wednesday 23 July, the Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU approved the EU Council’s position on one of the ’Omnibus IV’ texts recently proposed by the European Commission (see EUROPE 13645/2). The directive aims to rationalise and digitalise the obligations of economic operators within the framework of thirteen other directives adopted between 2000 and 2014. These concern the harmonisation of rules on hazardous substances, noise emissions from equipment, and weighing and measuring instruments.
As well as paving the way for these texts to go digital, this ‘omnibus’ proposal also provides for the European Commission to establish common standards in place of the standards bodies, which are lagging too far behind.
The Commission’s ’Omnibus IV’ also includes a regulation amending six old regulations in the same way. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
