04/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 4 July, the European Commission launched a call for evidence (https://aeur.eu/f/hps ) to gather opinions on the follow-up to the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) ‘For a fur-free Europe’ (see EUROPE 13270/13). In December 2023, the institution adopted a communication (https://aeur.eu/f/hpr ) in response to this initiative, in which it presented its legal and political conclusions and the actions envisaged. The aim of this call for contributions is to inform the decision on the monitoring of the ECI. The Commission invites all stakeholders, both within and outside the EU, to contribute their opinions and expertise. They are therefore called upon to provide factual information on the economic, social and environmental impacts, as well as the benefits and costs of the scenarios set out in the Commission’s communication. They may also suggest other ways of responding to the problems identified. (LC)
