The League of European Research Universities (LERU), the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities (The Guild), the Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe (UNICA), the European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities (EASSH) and the Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE) published a series of recommendations aimed at establishing a close link between the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) and the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10), on Thursday 3 July.
They urged that these two European instruments be developed in a clearly distinct way, both legally and financially, since they will target and fund different activities, mobilise different funding instruments with different rules, and have (at least partly) different beneficiaries. Although distinct, they should also be complementary, since FP10 should clearly focus on funding R&I, and research and innovation (R&I) only, while the ECF should facilitate the deployment and commercialisation of these R&I activities.
The signatories recommend the establishment of a number of clear linkages between FP10 and the ECF.
