Former far-right group ID is alleged to have committed irregularities in use of European funds to tune of €4.33 million

04/07/2025 (Agence Europe)The European Parliament believes that it is premature at this stage to react to information published on Thursday 3 July in several European newspapers, including Le Monde, based on an internal financial report by the EU institution, according to which the far-right parliamentary group Identity and Democracy (ID), which was active during the 2019-2024 term, is alleged to have made irregular expenditure to the tune of €4.33 million. According to the investigation, this political group granted a sum of €700,000 to associations that had nothing to do with its activities or the European Parliament’s remit. It is also alleged to have breached procurement rules in connection with communications contracts with private service providers, with irregularities totalling €3.6 million. The European Parliament points out that the process of closing the accounts of the ID Group is still under way. The matter could in fine be referred to the Committee on Budgetary Control. (MB)
