The latest Eurobarometer survey, published on Friday 4 July, confirms cohesion policy’s positive impact in EU countries and regions.
According to the survey, 40% of respondents are aware that EU-funded initiatives exist, and almost four-fifths (79%) (especially in Lithuania, Poland and Romania) believe that these initiatives contribute positively to their living conditions.
Two-thirds of respondents are familiar with at least one of the cohesion policy funds, such as the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Cohesion Fund, the European Social Fund, Interreg or the Just Transition Fund. The level of knowledge is particularly high in Poland (92%) and Slovakia (91%).
17% of participants stated that they had personally benefited from a project supported by the ERDF or Cohesion Fund, with this percentage reaching 50% in some countries.
When it comes to priorities for future EU investment, respondents put improving health and education infrastructure at the top of the list (49%). Finally, 64% of respondents believe that cohesion policy should benefit all EU regions.
