In its programme, which has just been unveiled, the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which takes office on 1 July, emphasises the importance of the green transition. Its priorities in terms of competitiveness are in line with those of previous Presidencies, with a focus on reducing the administrative burden. However, the Danes are placing more emphasis on environmental protection and clean energy, at a time when more and more politicians are questioning the ‘Green Deal’
For them, the green transition is an “key growth driver”. They intend to focus on “decarbonising industry and establishing the right framework conditions to ensure access to essential raw materials and affordable energy”.
This will involve an industrial policy that promotes green forces, investment and technological development, according to the Danish Presidency’s programme.
Access to clean, affordable energy is crucial for Denmark. They are therefore defending the development of energy infrastructure and production capacity, particularly in renewable energies.
Trade. A competitive economy also depends on flourishing trade, according to the Danish Presidency, which advocates an increase in the number of strategic partnerships.
However, it warns against unfair trade practices by certain third countries, which the EU “must defend itself against”. “This includes taking firm and proportionate measures when needed”, the programme states.
