In order to verify whether the changes made by Microsoft to the interoperability of its Office 365 suite are effective and meet EU requirements, the Commission announced on Friday 16 May that it had opened a consultation so that interested parties could give their opinion on the relevance of the firm’s commitments.
Since July 2023, Microsoft has been subject to an antitrust investigation by the Commission for linking its Teams online meeting tool to its Office 365 suite (see EUROPE 13439/13).
The company has announced a number of changes to comply with European requirements. These include offering a version without the addition of Teams, offering improved interoperability with third-party software and allowing customers to change versions.
The European Commission could make these commitments legally binding, depending on the feedback.
Interested parties may make their views known within one month of publication of a summary of the proposed commitments in the Official Journal of the European Union. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
