In its monitoring report on the projects on the Union’s first list of Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) (2024), the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) said on Friday 16 May that most of these infrastructure projects are on schedule, but face an ambitious deadline for commissioning.
The projects, defined in the TEN-E regulation, cover the infrastructure categories for electricity, hydrogen, CO2, electrolysers and gas.
130 projects were monitored. ACER indicates that 72% of electricity projects should be commissioned by 2030. While a third of these projects have been delayed or rescheduled, more than half are at a more advanced stage (30% under construction, 23% in the authorisation phase and 2% already in service).
Secondly, ACER points out that of the 34 hydrogen projects, 33 are progressing on schedule and more than 90% should be commissioned by 2030. However, it emphasises that, for the moment, only 18% have reached the authorisation phase, and the rest are at a less advanced stage.
