At their EU Council meeting on Monday 12 May, the representatives of the governments of the EU Member States responsible for education approved conclusions for a “community of young people in Europe based on European values for a common and safe Europe”.
Faced with the many challenges posed by “mental health, digital technology, ecology, disinformation, the shrinking of civic spaces and the consequences of global crises”, as listed by Polish Minister for Education Barbara Nowacka, who chaired the meeting, the EU27 have committed themselves, through this text inspired by recommendations made by young people at the Lublin conference last March, to building a safer, fairer and more sustainable Europe.
The conclusions state that Member States will make a sustained effort to foster inclusiveness, promote intergenerational fairness and harness the potential of young people in Europe.
The Erasmus+ programme, the European Solidarity Corps and the EU Youth Dialogue are major levers for action in this regard.
