At the Education Council held on Monday 12 May, European ministers approved conclusions aimed at strengthening inclusive, learner-centred educational practices from early childhood onwards.
In line with the fundamental values of the European Union, it is therefore recommended that these practices be continued throughout schooling, to promote education that is accessible to all, regardless of the origin, abilities or specific needs of learners.
Teachers, school and care staff as a whole, trainers and families play a decisive role in this respect.
The aim is to create work environments that are fair, caring and suitable for everyone.
The text also encourages Member States to base their education policies on research and to promote innovative teaching methods. There is also support for strengthening links between schools, social and health services and local actors.
Finally, the conclusions also call for the use of existing European programmes, such as Erasmus+.
