European Commission’s proposals for revising REACH regulation too similar to those of chemical industry, according to EEB

28/04/25 (Agence Europe)Seven of the ten proposals for revision of the REACH regulation drawn up by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) are included in the ideas submitted by the European Commission at the 54th meeting of CARACAL on 3 April, according to the European Environmental Bureau (EEB). The NGO sees this as evidence of too much porosity between the Commission and the powerful lobby. For example, the Commission is going along with the lobbies in questioning the collection of data on the dangerousness of polymers, the constituent elements of plastics, or when it suggests limiting the monitoring of ‘chemical cocktails’ “only to substances produced in large volumes”, thereby risking weakening “its commitment to take realistic exposure scenarios into account”, according to the EEB. See the reports: on the simplification of chemical substances: https://aeur.eu/f/gl0 ; and on CEFIC’s ten requests: https://aeur.eu/f/gl1 (FS)
