17/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 16 April, the EU and the Republic of Zambia held their annual ‘Partnership Dialogue’—2025 marking 50 years of partnership. The meeting enabled both parties to discuss the current geopolitical context and global challenges, particularly with regard to peace, security, the climate, and environmental protection. The EU delegation in Lusaka indicated that the partners reaffirmed their dedication to multilateralism. The EU and Zambia maintain strategic relations in several key sectors, including critical raw materials (see EUROPE 13543/20), the development of the Lobito Corridor (see EUROPE 13558/5), and forestry. “We are offering quality investment in areas where both the EU and Zambia share [an] interest [in] work[ing] together”, stated a European Commission adviser hors classe in charge of international partnerships, emphasising the “shift in the EU strategic approach” with its ‘Global Gateway’ investment package.
