Thursday 17 April saw an important step forward in the fight against the leading cause of death in Europe, with the official launch of the Cardiovascular Health Group in the European Parliament, chaired by MEP Romana Jerković (S&D, Croatian). This cross-party group aims to put the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease at the heart of the EU’s health agenda.
The inaugural meeting will take place on Wednesday 23 April, and will also mark the official launch of a key document: ‘A European Cardiovascular Health Plan: The Roadmap’ (see EUROPE 13537/2). This strategic plan sets out priorities for promoting cardiovascular health and reducing the impact of cardiovascular disease in the European Union. It focuses on prevention, equitable access to care and innovation.
This group is coordinated by the European Alliance for Cardiovascular Health (EACH) and will serve as a collaborative platform for MEPs to engage in dialogue, exchange knowledge and support coordinated action at EU level in the field of cardiovascular health.
The group’s work aims to inform and support the development of a European cardiovascular health plan.
