On Monday 14 April, a delegation from the European Disability Forum (EDF) led by the co-chair of its Youth Committee, Lydia Vlagsma, met the European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef.
The delegation noted the disproportionate barriers faced by young people with disabilities in all aspects of life and called for their inclusion in youth policies, notably through their participation in structures such as the Commission President’s Youth Advisory Council, policy dialogues with Commissioners and stakeholder groups on youth.
Discussions also focused on accessibility in the cultural sector, participation in EU mobility programmes and the fight against cyberbullying.
In a press release, Lydia Vlagsma welcomed the “really encouraging” discussions and Commissioner Micallef’s commitment to including the views of young people with disabilities in all European policies and platforms, and to facilitating their access to culture.
