10/04/25 (Agence Europe) – The NGO PAN Europe has deplored the weakening of the European Parliament own-initiative report on the ‘European Strategy for Water Resilience’ (see EUROPE 13617/17) by conservative and far-right members, in a statement published on Wednesday 9 April. “For the EU Water Resilience Strategy to be meaningful, Europe’s waters must be protected from pesticide and PFAS pollution. This vote is a missed opportunity to tackle pollution at source”, said Manon Rouby from PAN Europe. The report acknowledges the widespread pollution caused by PFAS, but the NGO explains that “concrete measures to tackle this pollution are, however, missing”, the NGO regretted. MEPs have called for PFAS to be phased out in consumer goods and for updated limits to be set for the presence of PFAS in drinking water. The ban on all PFASs, however, has been dropped.
