First technical workshop between EU and region as part of their energy dialogue

More than 70 policy-makers, energy industry leaders and experts from the EU and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met in Bangkok on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 April for the first EU-ASEAN Technical Workshop on Energy to strengthen cooperation on sustainable and integrated energy systems.

The two-day event, organised as part of the EU-ASEAN Energy Dialogue, focused on developing the region’s electricity grid, enhancing energy security, promoting smart grid technologies and supporting renewable energies.

Drawing on the EU’s experience of regional energy integration, the workshop focused on exchanging technical expertise and policy ideas on regional electricity networks, while exploring potential areas for further cooperation.

For the EU ambassador to Thailand, David Daly, the aim is “to strengthen partnerships and collectively shape a future in which energy is accessible, sustainable and safe for all”.

Technical sessions and a visit to the demand response control centre in Thailand enabled practical solutions to be presented. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
