02/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 1 April, the European Commission published a call for input on how companies source and recycle raw materials and how this interacts with EU competition rules. The Commission’s aim is to assess the need for greater industrial cooperation in this sector, along the same lines as its proposal for a system to aggregate demand for raw materials. The call is aimed in particular at companies that extract, transform and recycle critical raw materials. These market participants have until 31 May to e-mail their views on the challenges they face and the opportunities for collaboration. The Commission has indicated that it may provide companies with guidelines on this subject, so that they can engage in cooperation projects while complying with competition rules.
