MEPs approve executive board for future AMLA

On Thursday, 20 March, members on the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) approved the appointment of five candidates to the executive board of the European Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA).

The vote, by secret ballot, took place after public hearings with the five shortlisted candidates were held. They thus approved the appointment of Simonas Krepsta, with 76 votes in favour, two against, and two abstentions; Rikke-Louise Ørum Petersen, with 77 votes in favour and two abstentions; Marcus Pleyer, with 78 votes in favour, one against, and one abstention; Derville Rowland, with 79 votes in favour and one abstention; and Juan-Manuel Vega Serrano, with 78 votes in favour, one against, and one abstention.

The Conference of Presidents—i.e. the president of the European Parliament and political group leaders—still has to approve these decisions. To be appointed, the executive board members must also receive the support of a qualified majority in the EU Council.

In February, the European Parliament shortlisted executive board members for the future AMLA (see EUROPE 13584/3). (Original version in French by Anne Damiani)
