20/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 19 March, the European Union strongly condemned yesterday’s terrorist attack in Mogadishu (Somalia) which targeted the convoy of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. A homemade roadside bomb exploded, destroying a building a few minutes after the presidential motorcade had passed. The exact death toll remains unknown: AFP was unable to establish it, while AfricaNews and Reuters reported three and four deaths respectively. “We are dismayed by this heinous act that has claimed the lives of innocent civilians”, a spokesperson for the European External Action Service said in a press release. The Islamist group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, a week after its bloody assault on a hotel that left nine people dead. “The EU reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the Federal Government of Somalia in its fight against al-Shabaab”, the spokesperson added.
