17/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 March, the European Commission approved a Spanish aid scheme worth €699 million to support investment in energy storage facilities, according to a press release. The scheme was approved under the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (TCTF) for state aid, which aims to provide investment aid for the deployment of large-scale energy storage systems. “This will ensure independence from fossil fuel imports and higher penetration of variable renewable energy sources in the Spanish electricity system.” The aid, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will take the form of direct grants to support the construction of 1,800 MWh of new electricity storage capacity. The measure will be open to all storage technologies. (SP)
