11/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – 361 non-governmental organisations have described the European Commission’s proposal for an ‘Omnibus 1’ package as “disastrous” (see EUROPE 13588/4), in a joint statement published on Monday 10 March. According to CAN Europe, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and others, the “simplification” advocated by the Commission “erodes EU’s corporate accountability commitments and slashes human rights and environmental protections”. By reversing the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Taxonomy Regulation, Ursula von der Leyen “is deprioritising human rights, workers’ rights and environmental protections for the sake of dangerous deregulation”, wrote the NGOs.
