11/03/25 (Agence Europe) – “Don’t touch youth civil society, ECR!” warned the NGO Young European Federalists (‘JEF Europe’) in a press release on Tuesday 11 March. The NGO is reacting to an amendment tabled by the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group in the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control to the 2023 discharge report, which “deplores the funding granted in 2023 by the Parliament to militant pro-integration organisations such as the Young European Federalists and other pro-EU activists”. According to JEF Europe President Christelle Savall, the amendment “aims to discredit not only JEF’s work, but also that of all pro-European organisations working for a more inclusive Europe”. JEF Europe called on MEPs not to adopt this amendment and placed the ECR’s approach in the context of its recent suspicion of the funding of green NGOs (see EUROPE 13579/6). (FS)
