24/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 20 February, the European Commission published the results of a survey on the European Student Identity Card (ESC). The project was launched in 2016, with the aim of making ESC widely available by 2025. The objective is to simplify mobility in Europe, provide digital access to services on and off campus, and make it easier to check student status and access various services such as libraries and transport. The survey, which was completed by 5,500 participants - students and staff - from 33 Erasmus+ countries, revealed that 42% of respondents were already familiar with the ESC. 83% of those who did not know about it said they were very interested. Furthermore, 62% of students who have the ESC find it particularly useful, six out of ten use a digital version, and 83% of the institutions that issue it have adopted it for all their students.
