24/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 February, the Jacques Delors Institute published a position paper on the financing of the Clean Industrial Deal with a particular focus on the role of State aid. Its author, Andreas Eisl, believes that the EU must harmonise and simplify State aid criteria and increase coordination at European level on national spending in order to target funding effectively and better direct it towards common objectives. This is critical in order to “avoid under-funding, maintain the integrity of the Single Market and achieve long-term economic and societal cohesion across Member States”, insists the author. To achieve these objectives, he proposes, for example, to strengthen the mechanisms for assessing and declaring State aid. Accompanying policies are also needed to maximise the use of national subsidies, he believes. See the position paper: https://aeur.eu/f/fmu (LM)
