24/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 February, the European Commission authorised an Austrian measure worth €227 million to support the Austrian semiconductor company ams Osram in the construction of an advanced manufacturing plant in Premstätten, Austria, according to a press release. This measure will strengthen “Europe’s security of supply, resilience and technological autonomy in the field of semiconductor technologies, in line with the objectives set out in the European Chips Act Communication and the Political Guidelines for the European Commission 2024-2029”. Scheduled to reach full capacity in 2030, the plant will be the first in Europe to have such an integrated process and to produce qualified products for the so-called Grade 0 automotive industry. The plant will also be partially open to other semiconductor companies to design and produce their own semiconductor chips. (SP)
