10/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – European Tourism Day will take place on Tuesday 27 May in Brussels, announced the Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apóstolos Tzitzikóstas, on Thursday 6 February, at the ‘Destination Europe’ Summit organised by the European Commission in partnership with Euronews. During his speech, the Commissioner revealed that tourism had reached record levels in 2024, surpassing the pre-Covid-19 pandemic figures: almost 3 billion nights were spent in European hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfasts, 50% more than 15 years ago. Among the measures to come, Mr Tzitzikóstas mentioned the simplification of EU funding programmes as well as the single ticketing system for cross-border rail travel (see EUROPE 13557/10), easier cross-border car rental services, and a strengthening of passenger rights in the EU.
