In Kosovo, the Vetëvendosje (VV, centre-left) party of the outgoing Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, came out in the lead in the legislative elections on Sunday 9 February. With 41% of the vote, he will have to try to form a coalition to govern, in the absence of an absolute majority.
This victory risks prolonging the already persistent tensions with neighbouring Serbia, which refuses to recognise Kosovo’s independence and openly supports the country’s Serb nationalists.
