04/02/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 3 February, the European Commission launched a consultation on the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) for hotel accommodation services. It wants to establish new rules for assessing the environmental impact of hotel accommodation services (Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules or PEFCR) to help EU hotels measure and communicate their sustainability. The objectives are: - to provide credibility and confidence to consumers looking for sustainable accommodation; - to facilitate fair competition by enabling companies to compare their environmental footprint based on a harmonised method; - to enable the sector to effectively improve its environmental performance and monitoring. The consultation is open to all stakeholders, including industry representatives, environmental organisations, consumer organisations, political authorities and the general public, until Sunday 2 March. A webinar will be held on Wednesday 12 February. (AD)
