04/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued on Monday 3 February, the S&D Group in the European Parliament called on European Commissioner Piotr Serafin to extend transparency checks to all those who have received funds from the Commission. This request follows the EPP’s proposal to focus on NGOs as part of the Commission’s discharge procedure for 2023. The EPP accuses environmental NGOs of receiving Commission funding on condition that they lobby the European institutions (see EUROPE 13571/7). “We are asking that the contracts of all beneficiaries of funds from a larger number of European Commission Directorates-General be checked against what the EPP is proposing”, said Mohammed Chahim (S&D, Dutch). The Industry, Research, Environment, Climate Action, Agriculture, Justice and Migration DGs should be included in the checks, according to the S&D group. (FS)
