04/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 4 February, more than 160 non-governmental organisations, trade unions and civil society organisations called on the European Commission to take measures to ban all trade and investment between the EU and Israeli settlements in Palestine, including East Jerusalem. In a letter to the President, Ursula von der Leyen, these organisations explain that “such action is essential for the EU and its Member States to comply with their obligations under international law”. Although goods from the settlements are excluded from the preferential tariffs in the EU-Israel Association Agreement, they can enter the EU. According to these organisations, this contravenes obligations under international humanitarian law and those laid down by the International Court of Justice, “which require a complete ban on trade and business with Israel’s illegal settlements”.
