29/01/25 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has finally indicated in its ‘Competitiveness Compass’, which it unveiled on Wednesday 29 January (see other news), that the Electrification Action Plan will be presented in the first quarter of 2026, at the same time as a package for European networks. Cillian O’Donoghue, political director of Eurelectric, representing the European electricity sector, expressed concern that a provisional version of the text (see EUROPE 13565/1) did not take this plan into account in future initiatives. Finally that is the case. However, the plan will not be presented in 2025, let alone during the first 100 days of the new Commission, as previously hoped (see EUROPE 13538/12). In addition, by the end of February the Commission will present its ‘Clean Industrial Deal’ with an action plan for affordable energy prices. Later this year, it will also unveil its legislative proposal for a 2040 climate target of a 90% reduction in emissions (see EUROPE 13344/1). (PLD)
