29/01/25 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 29 January, The Left Group in the European Parliament unveiled a report by anonymous researchers on the expulsion, sale and trafficking of migrants, highlighting “systematic human rights violations in Tunisia and in Libya, with the complicity of the EU”, according to a press release. The results reveal “a horrific logistical chain of abuse and exploitation, enabled by agreements between the EU and Tunisia. Testimonies from 30 survivors, corroborated through geolocation and other rigorous methods, expose five distinct stages of ‘state trafficking’: arrest and racial profiling of black migrants; transportation to the Tunisian-Libyan border; detention in military-run camps; sale of migrants to Libyan armed forces and militias; imprisonment in Libyan detention centres, where release is contingent on ransom payments”.
