14/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 14 January, the European Commission announced the allocation of €40 million in funding to support the EU’s humanitarian partners in Ethiopia throughout 2025. This fund will provide vital aid in terms of food, access to drinking water, hygiene, shelter and essential goods. It will also fund nutritional assistance, disease prevention and access to primary health care, as well as education and protection initiatives for the children affected, according to the Commission. The aid will target displaced populations in particular, including refugees fleeing from neighbouring countries such as Sudan. This amount, presented as an initial envelope for the year, could be revised upwards if necessary. To date, €436.5 million has already been allocated since 2020 to Ethiopia, where armed conflicts are raging, particularly in the Tigray region (see EUROPE 12664/3). (BD)
