13/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – In an open letter to the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, and in a video posted on Facebook on Monday 13 January, the Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, came back to his exchange with the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jørgensen, from 9 January, concerning the situation linked to the cessation of Russian gas transit via Ukraine on 1 January, and called on the Ukrainian side to “actively participate in further negotiations and the work of the special working group created for this purpose” (see EUROPE 13554/1). Mr Fico also invited his counterpart, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, to a meeting “on possible technical solutions (...), on the impact of the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine on the declining competitiveness of the European economy and on the development of bilateral Slovak-Ukrainian relations”.
