Three out of four EU citizens believe it benefits men, but stereotypes persists

17/12/2024 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 17 December, the European Commission published the results of the Eurobarometer survey on gender stereotypes. While a large majority of respondents recognise the benefits of gender equality - three out of four believe that men also benefit from it and 90% believe that it is equally important for women and men to be financially independent - stereotypes persist. For example, 49% of the public believe that men are naturally less competent at housework. In politics, 47% believe that men are more ambitious than women, a figure that has risen since 2017. However, more than half of citizens support EU measures to strengthen female representation in politics. The survey follows a series that began in 2009. Previous results were published in 2014 and 2017. Link to the survey: https://aeur.eu/f/eub (NP)
