17/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 19 December, the President of the European Council, António Costa, will ask the EU27 leaders to approve his request that the position he has held since the beginning of December be covered by the scope of the European Ethics Body. “I believe that to maintain the trust citizens place in the institutions that serve them, these need to be exemplary”, he states in his letter of invitation to the EU27 summit. One of his predecessors, Belgium’s Herman Van Rompuy, has agreed to represent the European Council on this European body that is in the process of being set up (see EUROPE 13410/3). The former President of the European Council, Charles Michel, was not involved in the inter-institutional negotiations on setting up the future body. (MB)
