27/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 27 November in Strasbourg, the European Parliament approved (660 votes in favour, 11 against and 4 abstentions) €116 million in aid from the EU Solidarity Fund following floods in Germany and Italy in 2024. Germany will receive €112.1 million and Italy €4 million. Aid from the EU Solidarity Fund will cover part of the cost of emergency operations and work to repair damaged infrastructure and safeguard cultural heritage (see EUROPE 13526/29). In adopting the report by Giuseppe Lupo (S&D, Italian), the European Parliament noted that on 21 October 2024 the European Commission had presented a legislative proposal on emergency regional support for reconstruction following natural disasters (as well as another proposal relating to the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development) aimed at providing additional aid to Member States affected by natural disasters.
