18/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 18 November, the EU Council of Ministers adopted without debate a decision to mobilise the European Union Solidarity Fund for Germany and Italy following natural disasters in 2024 (see EUROPE 13512/9). This aid, from the EU’s 2024 budget, amounts to €112.071 million for Germany (floods in May and June 2024) and €3.959 million for Italy (floods on 29 June 2024 in the autonomous region of Valle d’Aosta). The aid will cover part of the costs, including repairing damaged infrastructure, safeguarding cultural heritage and clean-up operations. Once the decision has entered into force, the funds can be disbursed to the countries that have requested financial assistance. (LC)
