18/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 15 November, the European Union expressed its deep concern at the continuing violence that has shaken Mozambique since the presidential election on 9 October. Demonstrations challenging the election results were brutally repressed, leaving at least 30 people dead, according to Human Rights Watch. “The EU urges all parties to exercise the utmost restraint, avoid the use of excessive force, refrain from vandalism, and abstain from inflammatory rhetoric”, said a spokeswoman for the European External Action Service. Based on the observations of its electoral mission (see EUROPE 13509/28), the EU called on the Mozambican Constitutional Council to guarantee total transparency in the electoral process and to ensure the integrity of the results.
