22/10/24 (Agence Europe) – In a statement published on Tuesday 22 October, the EU Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) in Mozambique, which had mobilised 179 observers on the day of the presidential election, expressed its concern about irregularities in the vote count and “unjustified alterations to the results” in polling stations and districts. Two days after the vote on 9 October, the EU EOM’s chief observer, Laura Ballarín, had already noted “a notable lack of confidence in the reliability of the electoral register and in the independence of the electoral bodies”, and also reported “a slow counting process which suffered from disorganisation and lack of clarity”. Despite this preliminary statement, the observers reported on Tuesday that they had been prevented from attending the results compilation process in certain regions, as well as at national level. (BD)
