22/10/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 22 October, the European Parliament approved the position of the Council of the EU on draft amending budgets No. 2 and No. 4 for 2024, which relate to the budgeting of the surplus from the 2023 financial year and the updating of revenue. The main changes introduced by the decision are: - a surplus that is mainly attributable to financial income, interest on arrears and fines; - lower customs duties than expected; - a reduction in the UK’s contribution for 2024 compared with the estimate; - modification of the gross reductions of the own resource based on Gross National Income (GNI) for Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Sweden, as well as an increase in the financing of decentralised bodies with a proposal intended to mobilise the flexibility instrument for the European Medicines Agency and Eurojust.
