22/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – MEPs adopted the European Parliament’s position on the ‘Soil’ and ‘Waste’ directives during a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment on Monday 21 October. This vote launched the series of trilogues with the Council of the EU (see EUROPE 13433/3 and 13433/4) and the Commission (see EUROPE 13216/4 and 13216/3) on Tuesday 22 October, for an initial item at which each institution presented its position. The Hungarian Presidency had inherited these two dossiers from the Spanish and Belgian Presidencies. Their respective objectives are to make the EU’s soils healthy by 2050, in line with the EU’s ‘zero pollution’ ambitions, and to speed up the fight against food waste in the EU and involve textile manufacturers in the fight against the waste of used clothes and shoes.
