27/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 27 November in Strasbourg, the European Parliament rejected a proposal by the Patriots for Europe (PfE) group to object to a delegated regulation containing measures to protect dolphins during fishing in the Bay of Biscay (see EUROPE 13532/9). The request to object was supported by 123 MEPs (including 34 members of the ECR group), while 511 rejected it (with 41 abstentions). The delegated regulation was therefore accepted by the European Parliament. This text stipulates that, from 22 January to 20 February 2025, fishing will be banned for one month in the Bay of Biscay for certain categories of fishing boats. At the end of September, the European Commission had presented a delegated regulation setting out measures for 2025 to prevent incidental catches of dolphins and other small cetaceans in the Bay of Biscay (see EUROPE 13493/17, 13333/16).
