26/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 26 November, the European Commission announced that it had approved (https://aeur.eu/f/ehq ) the registration of ‘Nougat de Montélimar’ in the Community Register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs). This is a confectionery product made in the city of Montélimar, in France, consisting of a cream-coloured batter aerated with egg whites and containing sweeteners, in particular honey, and a filling consisting of almonds, possibly supplemented by pistachios. It has two different types of texture in the mouth: the hard nougat must be bitten into and is brittle, and the soft nougat is tender and chewy. This new designation will join the list of 3,636 products already protected at EU level. (LC)
