11/10/24 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 11 October, the European Union expressed its dismay at reports that Ukrainian freelance journalist Victoria Roshchyna had died while being “arbitrarily” detained by Russia. “Her fate is a tragic reminder of the many thousands of persons detained in occupied Ukrainian territories and Russia, as well as the repression imposed by Russian authorities, also in Russia”, stressed the spokesman for the European External Action Service in a press release. He demanded an in-depth and independent investigation to clarify all the circumstances of her death as soon as possible. Ms Roshchyna reportedly died during her transfer to Moscow from a prison in Taganrog in September. She is the thirteenth journalist to be killed since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. (CG)
