Rear Admiral Pereira da Costa, new EU Force Commander for EUNAVFOR ATALANTA mission

11/10/24 (Agence Europe) – The Ambassadors of the Member States meeting within the Political and Security Committee have appointed Portuguese Rear Admiral Armando Pereira da Costa Valente Tinoco as EU Force Commander for the EU military operation to contribute to maritime security in the Western Indian Ocean and Red Sea (EUNAVFOR ATALANTA) from 15 October 2024. He will replace Spanish Vice-Admiral Manuel Alvargonzález Méndez as EU Force Commander, who has been in post since 20 June. (CG)
