On Thursday 10 October, the European Union signed an agreement with Canada on the recognition of professional qualifications for architects. This agreement will make it easier for architects to move between the two parties, since professional qualifications will be recognised almost automatically.
The EU/Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) already makes it easier for architects to provide services, but the recognition agreement adds an even more direct procedure for European architects to obtain a licence in Canada and vice versa.
However, conditions apply to this simplified licence application, in particular the requirement for architects to have twelve years’ combined experience and training. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
