11/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 17 October, “in times of (...) an alarming trend to disregard international law”, the European Council is expected to reaffirm “its unwavering commitment to the rules-based international order,steadfastly upholding the United Nations and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, including those of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and of political independence and self-determination”, according to draft conclusions dated Thursday 10 October. The European Council declared it was “committed (...) to ensuring accountability for violations of international law and international humanitarian law, throughout the world”. It also stressed the importance of “implementing decisions of international courts”. In early October, Israel declared UN Secretary-General António Guterres persona non grata.
