On Friday 11 October, the European Commission authorised two Luxembourg support schemes, worth 520 million euros, designed to help manufacturing companies decarbonise their production processes and support investment in strategic sectors to promote the transition to a net zero emissions economy.
The aid was authorised under the temporary crisis and transitional framework adopted by the Commission on 9 March 2023 and amended on 20 November 2023 and 2 May 2024.
The decarbonisation support scheme is open to companies in the manufacturing sector that are currently dependent on fossil fuels. To be eligible, projects must enable the greenhouse gas emissions of the industrial facilities concerned to be reduced by at least 40% compared with the situation prior to the granting of aid, through the electrification of their production processes.
Projects funded under the decarbonisation scheme will be selected through a competitive process. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
