On Monday 7 October, the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) approved the opening of interinstitutional negotiations with the Council of the EU (trilogues) on five legislative dossiers (see EUROPE 13475/29, 13443/10). Parliament had adopted its position on these issues before the European elections in June, while leaving it to the newly elected representatives to decide whether to begin the trilogues.
The vote on the revised driving licence Directive was 37 in favour, 3 against and one abstention (see EUROPE 13360/9).
“The EPP Group is ready to negotiate the best deal to ensure mobility and will continue to pursue policies that guarantee mobility and address the driver shortage, without compromising on road safety”, commented Polish Christian Democrat, Elżbieta Łukacijewska, on this legislative proposal.
The vote on the launch of the trilogues on the driving disqualifications Directive received 36 votes in favour, four against and one abstention (see EUROPE 13484/15).
The decision to revise the rules on weights and dimensions for road transport was supported by 30 votes to nine, with two abstentions (see EUROPE 13369/19). The vote on the decision on railway infrastructure capacity received 38 votes in favour, three against and one abstention (see EUROPE 13434/3).
Finally, on the revision of the mandate of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), the launch of trilogue negotiations was approved by 37 votes to one with two abstentions (see EUROPE 13369/21). (Original version in French by Anne Damiani)
